| Description |
This 60km line from Meran/Merano through to Mals/Malles has had a complex history. Built in 1906 and closed to traffic in 1990, it then reopened in 2005. Current operator is the regional transport company Società Autobus Alto Adige (SAD). The reopening of the line saw introduction of 10 Stadler built GTW 2/6 2-car DMUs classified ATR100. Seen here at Meran/Merano on 22 February 2015 are units ATR100.005 closest to the camera with ATR100.003 behind. Train R127, 17:16 Meran/Merano to Mals/Malles. The line is known as the Vinschgerbahn (Italian = Ferrovia della Val Venosta) and services operate at least one an hour. Since reopening, traffic levels have increased and the authority has been given to electrified the line. This could well see through trains run through from other stations in the Südtirol region. |
