Judge Warren Cowan, 1838 - 1891

Judge Warren Cowan was named from Warren County where he was born. During the War Between the States he served with the Volunteer Southrons and was later in Cowan's Battery. He was wounded three times and was taken prisoner three times. After the war he was elected judge of the county court and, following the overthrow of the radical government, was named city attorney in 1875. In 1879 he was elected senator from Warren County and in 1883 he was appointed chancellor of the district. He was a leader in the Prohibition movement in Mississippi in the 1880s.
