Title
219 Medieval buckle plate.JPG
Description
English: Buckle plate
  Medieval
Length 31mm, width 14mm, depth 1mm.

sheet copper alloy, rectangular with concave sides along the long edges. Possible fleur-de-lis terminal, but is corroded and worn. Two rivet holes (2mm diameter), one in the centre of the leading end and the other in the centre at the terminal end of the plate. At the leading end there are two rectangular arms (5mm long, 4mm wide) one at the top and another at the bottom that extend beyond the plate, resulting in a rectangular slot 5mm wide. The terminals of these arms are slightly bent round towards the reverse, these arms would have been completely bent round to form a circle in order to hold on to a buckle.

Dark green patina very pitted with little of the original surface remaining.
