English: Aurora borealis seen from Old Town, ME, on Aug 12, 2024. Living or visiting rural America can often provide outstanding views of the night sky due to fewer man-made lights casting light upwards and scattering in the atmosphere. The light pollution is the broad glow from the source makes it more difficult to see the faint light of stars, falling meteors, comets, environmental conditions or events such as aurora borealis, a.k.a. the northern lights.
