Description
Deutsch: Das Stift Melk, offiziell Abtei Melk ist eine Abtei der Benediktiner im Bundesland Niederösterreich in der Stadt Melk am rechten Ufer der Donau. Der heutige Barockbau wurde in den Jahren 1702–1746 von Jakob Prandtauer errichtet. Als Wahrzeichen der Wachau gehört es zum UNESCO-Welterbe. Es wurde als „sinnbildlichstes und dominantestes Barockgebäude“ beschrieben. Weiters beherbergt es das Stiftsgymnasium Melk, die älteste noch bestehende Schule Österreichs. Abt des Stiftes ist Georg Wilfinger.
