Description
Nederlands: Drie brokstukken van een reliëf, vermoedelijk een koorafscheiding van de laat-Merovingische of vroeg-Karolingische Sint-Servaaskerk in Maastricht, bruikleen van de Sint-Servaasbasiliek te Maastricht, gefotografeerd in het Centre Charlemagne te Aken. De fragmenten zijn gevonden tijdens de grote restauratie van de Sint-Servaaskerk (1991-93), vlakbij het priesterkoor. De drie kalkstenen platen hebben gezamenlijk de afmetingen 27 x 91 x 5 cm en dateren volgens de archeoloog en kunsthistoricus Titus Panhuysen uit ca. 700-750 (volgens het bijschrift te Aken: 8e of 9e eeuw). Het zeer vlakke bas-reliëf toont de Bijbelse thema's van de Vlucht naar Egypte (links) en de Kindermoord te Bethlehem (rechts). Geheel rechts is waarschijnlijk koning Herodus afgebeeld. Op de glasplaat vóór het reliëf is met belijningen aangegeven hoe het complete tafereel er vermoedelijk uit zag. NB: de fel witte, gebogen lijnen zijn reflecties van een lichtsculptuur in de tentoonstellingsruimte en hebben niets met het reliëf te maken.
