Summary
[edit]Description2018 Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn, Grabstein der Rignedrudis.jpg |
English: Early-Christian gravestone (6th c.) from Brühl in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn, Germany. The stone originally was part of an antique building and was reused in the 6th century as a gravestone for Rignedrudis, a girl with a Germanic name. The inscription in Latin reads: IN HVNC TOMOLO REQ(ui)-ESCIT IN PACE BONE ME <ME> MO-RIE NOMENE RIGNEDRVDIS CARA PARENTEBVS ET NI MIVM RELICTA AMORE. QVI VIXIT IN HVNC SAECOLO ANNOS XIIIIII ET MIGRAVIT DE HVC MVN-DO XV K(a)L(enda)S MADIAS, which translates as: In this grave lies in peace with good memories (the girl) with the name Rignedrudis, loving the parents and ever so lovingly missed. She lived in this world 16 years and left from this earth on the 15th day before the calendar of May (= 17 April). |
