Summary

Description	With the backdrop of a USDA Forest Service smokejumpers aircraft at the Northern Fire Operations Center in Redding, California, U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue, Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, and Congressman Doug LaMalfa, held a news conference, Aug. 13, 2018, to discuss the situation with the Carr Fire. Local and national media outlets were briefed on the interagency cooperation and the need for active management. The wildfire ignited July 23 on National Park Service land in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and has burned 207,162 acres as it continues to burn north into the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
