Summary
[edit]Description2017-Maastricht, Museumkelder Derlon, Romeinse deksteen, Havenstraat, 1980.jpg |
English: Museumkelder Derlon in the basement of Hotel Derlon in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The museum features the 1983 archaeological excavations of an ancient Roman shrine from the 2nd century AD. The shrine stood along the main road from Tongres via Maastricht to Cologne, close to the bridge over the river Meuse. It consisted of an enclosed courtyard with a Jupiter column and a number of smaller monuments. The carved lintel featured here was probably part of a 2nd or 3rd-century monument. Although exhibited here, it was not excavated here but at nearby Plankstraat in 1980. |
