Description
Afrikaans: Marmerfries in die Voortrekkermonument wat die geskiedenis van die Boere tydens die Groot Trek uitbeeld. In hierdie toneel (links tot middel), oorhandig voortrekkerleier Louis Tregardt (1783–1838) sy vuurwapen aan die Portugese distriksgoewerneur Antonio Gamitto (1806–1866), na hul trek Delagoabaai op 13 April 1838 bereik. Tregardt se vrou Martha, onderskraag deur die goewerneur se vrou, word ongesteld uitgebeeld – die Tregardt-egpaar sou dieselde jaar aan malaria sterf.
English: Marble relief of the Voortrekker Monument on the history of the Boers during the Great Trek. In this scene (left to middle), the voortrekker leader Louis Tregardt (1783–1838) hands his fire arm to the Portuguese district governor Antonio Gamitto (1806–1866), after their trek reached Delagoa Bay on 13 April 1838. Tregardt's wife Martha, supported by the governor's wife, is shown feeling unwell. The Tregardt couple would die of malaria during this year.
