Description Iceland Iceland, wreck of a Douglas R4D-8 (Super DC-3) of the U.S. Navy. The plane carried out an emergency landing here on November 21, 1973 because it iced over when passing overhead Mýrdalsjökull. Nobody was injured, but it was impossible to remove the wreck. Some sources also say it happened November 24, but this is unlikely as Morgunblaðið reported the accident on November 22. In the background are Eyjafjallajökull (left) and Mýrdalsjökull.
