Description

Sarophorum palmicola (Henn.) Seifert & Samson

Image location: Sao Luis, Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe

exists to be applied to generally coralloid fungi, of which this was one kind of candidate, though no longer since we have a precise ID. I’m sure there are more observations than this one which, absent said ID, linger on under the admittedly broad-brushed (and potentially misleading) banner of Clavariaceae sensu lato; observations which rightly belong to decidedly non-coralloid families/genera. It’s a shape based name, and is therefore extremely fallible, but serves an important organizational purpose.
