Description

About 1,000 athletes came to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers J. Strom Thurmond Dam on June 21, 2012 to compete in the USA Cycling National Time Trials. Hosted by the Augusta Sports Council, this was the second year in a row that the National Time Trials were held at the Thurmond Dam.

The course was staged on the Georgia/South Carolina state line, requiring riders to start and finish the course with a dramatic ride across the Thurmond Dam. The course was slightly modified from last year, with the starting house located in the lower parking lot of the Visitors Center. This change opened up access to the course, allowing team cars to follow their riders.

The final slots for the women's 2012 Olympic team were filled in May, and two of those London-bound athletes, Amber Neben and Evelyn Stevens, competed in the Elite Women's 30km course, taking the top two spots respectively.

A record number of cyclists, over 110, competed in the Paralympic events. These athletes were not only competing for national championships in their events, but for the 12 remaining spots on Team USA for the 2012 Paralympic Games. This was the last race influencing the Team USA selections.
