Title
2012T411 Post Medieval Silver Cuff Link Button
Description
English: A Post Medieval silver sheet disc button belonging to a cufflink, c. AD 1675-1700. The cufflink button is circular in plan with downward turned edges. The raised decoration on the front consists of a heart with a flame above, and two arrows piercing the heart. The reverse is plain, but shows the remains possible soldering for an attachment loop.

Cufflinks and buttons with this design are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza (1662), but continued to be used as a general symbol of love and/or marriage. Similar items can be found from Calbourne, Isle of Wight (2012 T111; PAS no. IOW-A50866) and Hoe, Norfolk (2011 T832; PAS no. NMS-761DE7).
