Image location: Mount Baldy, San Gabriel Mountains, Los Angeles Co., California, USA SUBSTRATE following cracks in granite outcrop; ASPECT mostly exposed; NOTES following cracks, cortex and medulla strongly C+r KC+r, glossy thick rich brown cortex up to 100 µm thick brown above, cortical cells ~3 µm round, algal layer thick and even, lower surface white, strongly stipitate with 2mm or more cortex under margins all around, no apothecia seen, lots of pycnidia immersed like apothecia, conidia ~3 × 1-1.5 µm ellipsoid. Recognized by sight
