English: Treasure Number: 2011 T506 Matching, Essex: Post Medieval bodkin
Date of Discovery: May 2010 Circumstances of discovery: whilst metal detecting Period: 17th century Description: post-medieval dress pin of bodkin type (fragment), oval in cross section. One end of the bodkin has been broken at the base end of the longitudinal opening and the other towards the tapered end. It is possible to see some incised hatching design on both sides, otherwise very little design and the shaft is bent. Dimensions: Length: 31.52mm Width: 4.40mm Thickness: 2.47mm Weight: 3.4g Discussion: A similar example can be found from Normanton on Trent, Nottinghamshire (PAS ref: LIN-A59A56, 2010 T754). Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
