Summary

Description	On Tuesday August 23, 2011, USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service along with state and local partners in New York State declared Islip New York free of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB). The ALB is an invasive plant pest that is damaging to many species of hardwood trees; including Maple; Elm; Ash; Birch; Willow and Poplar trees. Certificate of Appreciation was given to Town of Islip for their help with Asian Long Horn Beetle eradication, (L-R) Kevin King, Director, Division of Plant Industry NY Department of Agriculture and Markets; Greg Dawson, Town of Islip Commissioner of Parks; Vic Harabin, Director, Plant Protection & Quarantine, USDA APHIS and Bill Ketzer, Special Assistant to the Commissioner, NY Department of Agriculture and Markets.
