Title
2010T509 Bronze Age hoard - Item A.2 Socketed axe
Description
English: BURNHAM HOARD 2010 T509: Item A.2 Socketed Axe; Plainseau

Complete cast copper alloy socketed axehead. There is a wide upper mouth moulded with two narrower mouldings below. The top edge of the side loop joins over the lower two mouth mouldings. The sides are concave, tapering out at the blade end. There are prominent casting seams on both sides. The blade end is blunt, with a small amount of damage on one blade tip (side of the loop). The axe has cast decoration on the front and back face, in the form of two raised semi-circular rings, giving an 'egg-timer' impression; these rings do not wrap around the sides of the axe. Body is rectangular in cross section. Mouth has rounded corners.
