Title
2010T509 Bronze Age hoard - Item 4.B and 6.B socketed axe
Description
English: Burnham Hoard 2010 T509: vessel content 4.B (2x fragments), 6.B (main body) and 6.C (1x fragment) joining fragments of a Socketed Axe; South Eastern - Plain (Petters type A.1)

Content of vessel T.D.2 located aproximately 40 to 60mm from the top of the vessel, positioned at an angle.

Three joining fragments of a cast copper alloy socketed axe; the axe is incomplete. There is a double mouth moulding, with a wide upper mouth moulding and narrower moulding below. The breaks between the two fragments of 4.B are due to corrosion, and the break that joins to 6.B appears to be more recent. 6.B is the main body of the axe (blade end missing) with 4.B making up aproximately one third of the mouth end. The socket of 6.B contains organic material. There is no visible decoration on the surviving sections of the axe. The side loop is missing.

Length: 92.06mm. Body at upper break: 29.21mm by 28.52mm. Body at lower break: 31.30mm by 15.38mm. The incomplete mouth is 38.37mm by 21.37mm. It weighs 115.80 grams.
