Title
2009 T463
Description
English: Report compiled by Richard Hobbs of the British Museum: Roman silver finger-ring of wound-wire type. The ring consists of a circular silver hoop, circular in cross-section, with a piece of fine wire wound around one of its shoulders; a matching piece of wound wire on the other shoulder is now missing, although traces of where this was attached are still visible under close examination. The upper part of the ring consists of two overlapping terminals, each surmounted with a silver globule; unfortunately these have been glued into place, so it is unclear if they conform to the original appearance of the ring. Discussion: the ring is of a type best know from the Snettisham jeweller's hoard (Johns 1997, pps. 107-8).

Description by Julie Cassidy (FLO): The frame is hexagonal in section and 3mm in diameter at its thickest. The wire wound round the frame is 0.8mm in diameter and circular in section. The wire is wound 7 times around the frame, before the break. The flat terminals appear to have been formed by winding the frame into a circular plate. The terminals are currently twisted at 90degrees to the frame, although it is unclear if this was theie original position. the terminals are approximately 7mm in diameter, with a globular central boss on each. The frame is misshapen.
