Title |
2008 T739 Roman silver finger ring |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of silver finger ring of serpentine form. Only the upper part of the circular hoop survives. The hoop consists of two moulded hemispherical parallel hoops, around which is a moulding of a coiled serpent with head and tail clearly visible. The hoop is flat on the reverse.
Discussion: Although snake jewellery is common in the Roman period, this ring is not paralleled by the known forms and Roman finger rings are generally not flat on the inner side of the hoop. |
