Description

Cortinarius trivialis J.E. Lange

Image location: Lebanon

Fruiting body: Cap: hemispheric to convex becoming almost flat, often with a broad umbo, tawny-brown when young, ochre-yellow in age. Margin remains tuned inwards for a long period. Typically viscid and glutinous in wet weather. Gills: adnate, close, broad, clay-colored then rust-cinnamon. Covered by a glutinous and web-like, papery veil at first. Stalk: simple, tapering downwards, tall, whitish below cap, ochre-brown below with yellowish bands. Covered by a glutinous universal veil in wet weather, which leaves behind several scaly rings or bands as the weather becomes dry. Dimensions: Cap: 3-6cm across. Stalk: 8-16cm tall and 1-1.5cm thick. Microscopic features: Spores: brown in mass and yellowish-brown under microscope. Elliptical, roughened (verrucose), 11-15 (18.7) x 7-8.8(10) µm. Basidia 4-spored. Occurrence: gregarious on ground in oak area. Comments and Observations: Chemical test: positive with KOH (dark chestnut all over). Odor: light.
