Description

Deutsch: 30.09.2004 99887 Georgenthal: Das Kloster Georgenthal (Abbatia Vallis Sancti Georgii) wurde 1140 von Sizzo von Käfernburg als Familienkloster mit Mönchen aus Miromond als Zisterzienserabtei gegründet. Ruinenfeld der 1155 begonnenen spätromanischen Basilika (GMP: 50.829070,10.661440). Die Abteikirche (GMP: 50.829070,10.661440) wurde im wesentlichen nach 1186 errichtet und 1525 aufgegeben. Von der eigentlichen Klosteranlage sind nur noch Ruinen zu sehen; die Grundmauern des Klosters wurden jedoch zwischen 1840 und 1906 freigelegt.
