Summary
[edit]Description2000 Squier Precision Special 5-string bass guitar.jpg |
2000 Squier Precision Special 5-string bass guitar I bought this in 2001, when the choice was this or a reissue Danelectro Longhorn bass - sometimes I wish I'd gone for the Dano. I'm not really a bass player, more a guitarist who plays bass on home recordings when I'm playing everything myself, and with hindsight the short-scale Longhorn might have been a more manageable choice. I nickname this one "The Beast", and with reason! Whilst the Squier Precision Special sounds great - it's basically a Precision body with Jazz Bass pickups, so tonally-speaking this bass gives you the great meaty growl of the Jazz - it's a monster to get to grips with. Being a 5-string bass, it has a neck like a cricket bat, and strings like ship's cables, so every time I play it I feel like I'm wrestling a bear! It's useful to have the low B to go down to if required, though. One day I'm going to restring this bass with a lighter gauge (as of 2007 I've never changed the strings) - probably when I embark on my next recording project. Having said all the above, as this is the bass I happen to own, and I'm unlikely to change it any time soon, I can cope with it quite well. And it does sound great. |
