Title |
1st century Roman brooch fragment |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of copper alloy Roman brooch. This fragment represents part of the foot and catchplate from a 1st century Roman bow brooch. What remains is the straight foot section that would have run from the bow, and a fragment of a solid curled catchplate. The foot is broken at either end and decorated with two, vertical incised lines. The fragment is heavily abraded with a dark green patina with flashes of lighter green. The break surfaces are worn smooth but almost white in colour, suggesting damage occurred in the recent past. It is 20.82mm long, 4.28mm wide across the foot, 10.95mm wide across the catchplate and weighs 0.89g. |
