| Description |
English: Laya Boquiren is currently one of the youngest Jazz artists from the Philippines. She studied Orchestral Percussions at the St. Scholastica's College School of Music under the tutelage of Senor Edgar Embradura. She later joined the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Arturo Molina Jr. After a short stint in the orchestra, she fell in love with the jazz drumming of Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Antonio Sanchez, Lenny White, Billy Cobham, and Trilok Gurtu. This was the start of what would be a lifelong affinity with the Jazz tradition. Her session credits include saxophonist Michael Guevarra (Saxophoro), fusion guitarist Tyrone Lalas (Solstice), Jonathan Gonzales (anima chamber), and Salt Lake City jazz pianist Frank Yanowitz. She has been a featured artist of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts National Arts Month |
