The Triumph Spitfire was a sports car based on the Triumph Herald, using the Heralds 1147cc engine and running gear (the later GT6 was a 6 cyl version, based on the Triumph Vitesse) The first Spitfire, the Mk I was built from 1962-64. The Mk II 1965-67 got more power and a new grille; (still 1147cc) The Mk III 1967-70; a facelift, the bumper was raised; (now 1296cc from Herald 13/60) Mk IV; 1970-74; rear end cut off, like Stag, recessed door handles (1296cc) The last Spitfire was the 1500; 1974-81 impact absorbing bumpers, new engine (1493cc) |
