Summary
[edit]Description1973 Maserati Merak 2+2 Coupe (30570315377).jpg |
The Merak was a mid engine 2+2 sports car built from 1972-83, sharing many parts with the Maserati Bora, the Merak V6 powered and the Bora V8 powered. The extra cabin space gained by fitting the smaller V6 was used for a second row of seats, suitable for children or very small adults, making the Merak not just a less expensive alternative to the Bora but also a 2+2. The Merak and the Bora share the front part of bodyshell up to the doors. The front ends differ, mainly by the use of dual chrome bumpers on the Merak, in place of twin trapezoidal grilles on the Bora, but the similarities end at the B-pillar. The Merak doesn't have a fully glassed fastback, but rather a cabin ending abruptly with a vertical rear window. The original Merak got a 187hp 2965cc V6. The lighter and more powerful 1976 Merak SS got a black grille between the pop-up headlights and 217hp The 1977 Merak 2000GT got a smaller 168hp 1999cc engine, in only blue or gold, they also had a black stripe along the sides and black bumpers instead of chrome. |
