Finest Iris AMETHYST FLAME (Schreiner, '58) ML. 38" Each $1.50 Immense in size and elegant in form, a curiously tinted blend of lavender or light violet and rosy heliotrope. The "shoulders" of the falls carry air overlay of chestnut and the beard is almost white. Nicely ruffled, 38 inches tall, medium late. HM AIS, 19,58; AM, 1960. Dykes Medal, 1963. APRIL MELODY (Gibson, '67) ML. 36" Each $5.00 This is a pretty close approach to being a pink plicata . . . the ground color light, almost white, pinkish lavender and the markings a bright and intense shade of lavender-rose. In 1965 this was awarded the cup for best seedling at the regional A.I.S. meeting. As noted in the pic- ture, the flowers are a bit lacy and especially well proportioned. Large and long lasting. HM AIS, 1968. See page 21. AMIGO'S GUITAR (Plough, '64) EM. 36" Each $5.00 Standards are dark Butterscotch with a violet mid-rib, the wide falls blue-violet, lightly tinted rose, ruffled and fluted. This is similar in pattern to Gypsy Lullaby—but the colors are more subdued. HM AIS, 1965; AM, 1967. ARCTIC FLAME (Fay, '60) ML. 35" Each $2.50 This breathtakingly beautiful big \vhite has heavy texture and much ruffling. The beard is thick and wide, and glows with a fiery reddish tinge. A stalwart grower, the 35-inch stalks sturdy and well balanced. HM AIS, 1960; AM., 1962. ANGEL BRIGHT (Rees, '66) ML. 36" Each $7.50 A creamy combination of sparkling white and vivid chrome yellow. Standards are domed and the falls are broad, with a heavy pattern of gold on the haft and a matching rich golden heard. Well branched, large flowers. HM AIS, 1968. ARCTIC FURY (C. Benson, '64) M. 36" Each $4.00 Large, sculptured, snow white blooms of great width, lightly ruffled and semi-flaring in form. Even the beard is white. Sturdy and well branched stalks. HM AIS, 1965; AM, 1967. APPLE VALLEY (DeForesi, '58) EM. 36" Each $1.50 Almost white, flushed pink, with deeper pink cast about the hafts. The pink-tinted beard intensifies the pinkish glow of an otherwise almost white, very beautiful and different flower. Very large, with broad petals and tall stalks. HM AIS, 1960. See page 54. AUGUST MOON (Schmelzer, '62) M. 34" Each $2.50 Cool, greenish cream of heavy, leather-like substance. Flowers are of good form with lacy ruffles and the beard is deep yellow. 34 inches; midseason. HM AIS, 1964. APRICOT BLAZE (Gibson '71) f^. 34" Each $20.00 A tangerine bearded plicata of giant size and perfect proportions. The beautifully formed standards are solid coppery-apricot or pale amber, without markings, and they are folded and closed at the top. Falls are ivory in the central area, with shoulder markings of amber, shad- ing out to amber at the margins. See page 8. BABBLING BROOK (Keppel, '66) M. 38" Each $6.00 A welcome and worthy addition to the blue class with color even bluer than its parent, Galilee. This light, French blue is iirvariably singled out as "that very blue" iris. Has a light texture veining from its other parent. Symphony. Pale lemon yellow beard. Exceptional for its fine form.
