Description

The UK built Ford Escort replaced the Anglia in 1968, it was the small car in the UK Ford range. It featured the coke bottle waistline and dog bone shaped grille. The Mk I Escort was built until 1974, replaced by the boxier Mk II. It was available in 2 or 4 door saloon, 3 door estate and van. The base model, the Deluxe got round headlights and rubber flooring, the upmarket Super got rectangular headlights and carpet, 1300E got a wood trim dash, the GT, extra instrumentation, Weber carb and uprated suspension. Other performance models built at the Aveley Plant were, Twin Cam, Mexico, RS1600 and RS2000Engines; 1100, 1300, also 1600, 2000 in performance models

The Mk I Escort was also produced in Australia from 1970 to 75 as a 2 or 4 door saloon and as a van. Base model with round lights was the L, upmarket with rectangular headlights was the XL and the performance twin cam model was the GT1600
