The UK designed Cortina was built from 1962-82. The boxier shape Mark II Cortina replaced the Mark I in Oct 66 in the UK, but not until Aug 67 in Australia. Initially 1200 and 1500cc engines were initially carried over from the Mk I Cortina. In Jan 1968, replaced with 1300 and 1600cc engines with a cross flow head. A mild facelift in Jan 69 saw separate F O R D letters on bonnet and boot, a black grille and chrome above and below the tail lights. Auxiliary gauges on the GT and 1600E dropped from a central pod on top of the dash to a central position within the dash. In England and NZ, the Mk II was available in 2 or 4 door Saloons and from 1967, an Estate. Models were; Base, Deluxe, Super, GT and Lotus twin cam (now built in house at Ford) In 1967, the top of the line 1600E was offered, it combined the high-tune GT 1600 Kent engine and luxury interior trim featuring a burr walnut woodgrain dashboard and door cappings. Also bucket seating and full instrumentation, black grille, tail panel, fog lights, Rostyle wheels and Lotus suspension. (The GTE was the NZ version) In 1969, the 3.0 V6 Cortina Perana was available in South Africa, the UK version was the Cortina Savage. Australian models; 2 door; 220 (1300), 240 and 240L(1600).
