Summary

[edit]
Description

The fourth generation Thunderbirds were built from 1964-66, nicknamed the 'Jet Birds', although pretty much unchanged underneath, the shape was restyled with a more squared off sharp look. Dual headlights, a low-placed sweeping grille with horizontal bars stretching from end to end, deeply sculptured sides were new as were the large rectangular taillights replacing the round ones of the third generation. The interior was truly space age, with chrome and aluminium accents, jet-inspired instrument panel, slim-line front bucket seats and wrap around rear seating . The 1966 Thunderbird was extensively restyled with a new egg-crate pattern grille, and the two taillights were now connected into one massive piece of plastic. The standard Hardtop and Convertible were still available, for 1966, a new Town Hardtop model was offered, featuring a roof with blind quarter panels for a more ’formal’ look. The Landau model was replaced by the Town Landau, which retained the previous model’s padded roof and landau S-bars, but applied them to the Town Hardtop’s formal roof. Engines; 265hp 8 Code or 315hp Z Code 390 cu in V8, also new for 66, 345hp Q Code 428cu in V8
