| Description |
The Mk I Mini was built from 1959-67, Morris and Austin versions. In 1959 they were called the Morris Mini Minor and The Austin 7, then called the Morris Mini and Austin Mini from 1961. The new Mini was a very influential design, with its transverse engine, front wheel drive and independent suspension. It featured the 1st 10 inch wheels, sliding side windows with storage pockets below. From 1964, the front valance was cut away on each side to aid in brake cooling 2 door only, in Saloon, Estate, Van, Pickup and Moke. Also the performance Cooper and Cooper S and upmarket Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf Also built in Australia from 1961, From 1965 Australian Minis were fitted with wind-up windows years ahead of their UK counterparts. Morris Mini Coopers and Cooper S were also made and supplied to the Australian and New Zealand Police forces as high speed pursuit vehicles Engines; 850, 1000, 1100 and 1275 |
