| Description |
The 1956-62 Mk II Zephyr (206E) was the second generation of these UK built 6 cyl cars. Compared to the Mk I, the Mk II was completely restyled, it was longer, wider and more refined. Styling came from the US Tbirds and Fairlanes. In 1959, it got an updated grille and the roof was lowered. This car is an early model with the egg crate grille, hemisherical instrument cluster and higher roof line. Mainly available as a 4 door Saloon. Subsidiary companys did build a few 2 door convertibles and 5 door wagons. The upmarket version, the Zodiac, got a different grille, more elaborate tail end styling, two tone paint and gold badges. A base 4 cylinder version was also available, the Ford Consul, there was however a two tone Deluxe model. The Mk II was also built in Australia at Ford Australia's factory in Geelong. 4 door Sedans, their own coupe utility, and station wagon versions were produced. The Australian built wagons differed from the UK estates by having a wind-up rear window and a straight C pillar, rather than a curved one The Mk II was also assembled in NZ.
