| Description |
The Bentley S1, introduced in 1955, replaced the R Type and was updated in 1959 with the S2. The S1 Saloon got a completely new external appearance, longer and lower, although with the traditional radiator grille. The doors, bonnet and boot lid were made of aluminium. Standard models were 123 inch wheelbase, 35 were built with the longer 127 inch wheelbase. As with the preceding Mark VI and R type Bentleys, only the grille and badging differed from the Rolls-Royce, with the S1, the Silver Cloud I. A high-performance version S Continental (chassis only) was introduced six months after the introduction of the S1.
