The Maserati 250F racing car was built from 1954-58, only 26 were built for 2.5 litre Formula One. The 250F first raced in the 1954 Argentine Grand Prix where Juan Manuel Fangio won the first of his two victories before he left for the new Mercedes-Benz team. In 1956 Stirling Moss won the Monaco and Italian Grands Prix, both in a works car. The 1956 T2 works cars got a 315hp V12 engine In 1957 Juan Manuel Fangio drove to four more championship victories, including his legendary final win at German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring Emerging Kiwi race driver, Chris Amon bought this car in New Zealand in 1961 from Tony Shelly, previously owned by Australian driver Jack Brabham. The last race for this 250F was in 1962 at the Renwick 50, Amon finished second. Soon after, leaving New Zealand to become a Formula One driver, Len Southward eventually buying the car.
