English: 1940 Dennis Fire Engine
This appliance entered service with Manchester Fire Brigade (MFB) in April 1940, originally operating from the London Road Fire Station (SJ8497 : Former Fire Station, London Road). The chassis is a Dennis 'Big 6' Low-Loadline model; the bodywork was built to MFB specification and it carries a Morris Ajax 60ft wheeled escape ladder. The original petrol engine was replaced by a Gardner 6LW diesel engine in 1958 after which, the appliance served on the reserve fleet and later the training school. |
