The American automobile manufacturer Nash Motors started up in 1916. In 1924 Nash absorbed failing Lafayette Motors.(the name still used by Nash from 1937-40) In 1937 Nash joined up with Kelvinator to form Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. and in 1954 was taken over by American Motors Corporation, the name continuing on until 1957. In 1938, Nash introduced an optional conditioned air heating/ventilating system, an outcome of the expertise shared between Kelvinator and Nash. This was the first hot-water car heater to draw fresh air from outside the car, and is the basis of all modern car heaters in use today. Three models were available in 1938; The base model was the Lafayette 6, on 117 inch wheelbase, 95hp 234 cu in 6 cyl, available in 2 door Coupe, Sedan, Cabriolet and 4 door Sedan The Ambassador 6, on 121 in wheelbase, 105hp 234 cu in 6 cyl, available in 2 door Coupe, Sedan, Cabriolet and 4 door Sedan The Ambassador 8, on 125 in wheelbase, 115hp 260 cu in 8 cyl, available in 2 door Coupe, Sedan, Cabriolet and 4 door Sedan |
