Description

Production of the Austin 8 started in 1938 and continued into the war until 1943, then after the war from 1945-48. The Austin 8 replaced the Austin Big 7, construction was now more advanced, it got a new chassis and new suspension. The nose was now rounded with horizontal bars, the bonnet now hinged at the rear. The old 7 had a flat grille with vertical bars. It was available as a 2 or 4 door Saloon and 2 or 4 seat Tourer. 9000 2 seat tourers were built for the Military. Several companys built the Austin 8 in Australia, imported as a rolling chassis, Saloon and Tourer bodies designed and built there. Tourers were not built in the UK after the war, but in Australia they were.
