Description

The first Riley motorcar was built in 1898. Riley merged with Morris Motors in 1938 and then with the Austin Motor Company in 1952 to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The 1926-38 Riley Nine (9hp 1087cc 4 cyl) was a light car, designed by two of the Riley brothers, Percy designed the engine and Stanley, the chassis, suspension and body. The Nine was built with many different bodies and saw many improvements along the way Saloons were, 1926-32 fabric body Monaco, 1928-29 fabric body San Remo (artillery wheels), 1929-32 Biarritz Deluxe, 1933-36 Kestrel Streamlined, 1933-35 new alloy body Monaco, 1933-35 Falcon, 1936-37 Merlin (aluminium body built by Briggs, cheaper than the Riley built body) and the 1938 Victor Open Cars were, 1926-31 fabric body 4 seat Tourer, 1928-30 steel body 2 seat Tourer with Dickie seat, 1931-32 Plus Series, 1932-33 Plus Ultra (new chassis), 1931-32 2 seat Gamecock, 1933-35 March Special Sports Tourer, 1933-36 Lynx 4 seat Tourer, and the 1933-35 Imp Sports Also available were the 1933-35 Ascot drophead coupe and the 1933-35 Lincock Fixed head Coupe The 1927-31 Speed model was built for the race track, it got a low chassis, cycle wings, pointed tail and more power. Merlin engine; 1087cc 4 cyl twin cam hemi head
