| Description |
Founded in 1902, the Auburn Automobile Company got its start making single-cylinder runabouts. E.L. Cord gained control of the company in 1924, adding Duesenberg in 1926 and Cord in 1929 to the product line. A victim of the Great Depression, Auburn ceased production in 1936, followed by Cord and Duesenberg in 1937. Lycoming engines, an Auburn subsidiary, survives to this day Models built in 1936 by Auburn were; The Standard 654, the 654 Custom and upmarket 654 Salon, powered by a 85hp 210 cu in 6 cyl, available in 2 door Brougham, Cabriolet, Coupe, 4 door Sedan and Phaeton The Standard 851, the 851 Custom and upmarket 851 Salon, powered by a 115hp 280 cu in 8 cyl, available in 2 door Brougham, Cabriolet, Coupe, 4 door Sedan and Phaeton, the 851 Supercharged got 150hp and was available in Speedster as well. Gordon Buehrig designed the 851 along with the Cord 810. The 1936 852 was identical to the 1935 851, with exception of 852 on the grille.
