仅仅4年之后，

1935年7月，长江中游再度发生特大洪水，

自鄂西、湘西的武陵山和大巴山，

到长江中游清江、三峡、汉水中下游，

都处于暴雨笼罩中，汉江溃堤决口，

一夜之间淹死数万人，江汉平原近成泽国。

由于荆江地区长期被淹，

当地还流传了一句歌谣，

诉说连年洪灾中的生活：

“沙湖沔阳州，十年九不收。

若是一年丰收了，狗子不吃红米粥。”
