The Swallow Sidecar Company of England originally produced sidecars for motorcycles. They produced their first car in 1927, the Austin Seven Swallow, built on an Austin 7 chassis with Austin 7 747cc side valve 4 cyl engine, but with their own rounded back body and two tone paint. Starting with an open tourer in 1927, a saloon version introduced in 1928. In 1929, more cars were built on Standard, Swift and Fiat chassis and then a 6 cyl on the Wolseley Hornet chassis. Their name changed again in 1932 to SS Cars with the introduction of an open sports car, the SS One and in 1935, this car was called the SS Jaguar. Because of the Nazi connotations attached to the initials SS, after the second World War, the company was renamed Jaguar in 1945.
