[edit]Description1920 Indian Scout, Worlds fastest Indian (14605462339).jpg |
This is a replica of the 1920 Indian Scout that Burt Munro built to break the Land Speed Record for motorcycles under 1000cc. Five of these replicas were built for the 2005 movie, The Worlds Fastest Indian, starring Anthony Hopkins who played the role of Burt Munro. In the 60s, Burt, in his Invercargill shed, way down in the South of New Zealand, highly modified the 600cc Indian Scout, to see how fast he could get it to go, eventually taking it to the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US and broke the land speed record for motorcycles with engines under 1000cc at 201 mph Two of these replicas, for the New Zealand part of the film, had Indian engines in them, another two, for the American part of the film, had Ducati 750 engines in them, the fifth, had no engine. This particular replica is one with the Ducati engine used for filming at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Photographed in Invercargill, New Zealand |
