Description

William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen founded the Cadillac Automobile Company after a split from the Henry Ford Company in 1903. Cadillac was acquired by General Motors in 1909 and soon became its most prestigious division. Cadillacs first car was the 1903 Model A with a sloping curved hood. The 1904 version, the Model B got a box like front In 1905, with a new hood and radiator, three single cylinder models were available; the 72 inch wheelbase Model C, 74 inch wheelbase Model E and 76 inch wheelbase Model F 1906-07 saw updated bodies again, two models available, the 74 inch wheelbase Model K and 76 inch wheelbase Model M. The last of the single cyl cars were the 82 inch wheelbase 1908 Model S and Model T (no running boards on the T) These cars were all powered by Cadillacs first engine, a single cylinder engine mounted under the seat, transmitted to the rear wheels by chain-drive through a planetary transmission. This engine was used from 1903-08. Only 2377 cars were built in 1908, and very few of these S roadsters with the Tulip body Engine; 10hp 98.2 cu in single cyl
