Summary
[edit]Description1895 - 300 Block Hamilton Street looking West.jpg |
English: View looking west from the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal Railroad Station about 1895. The train station is to the left in the photo, note the Railroad Crossing gates in foreground when a train is stopped at the station. This would cause delays in the streetcar schedule between Allentown and Bethlehem as when a CNJ train arrived in Allentown from the north, it would block Hamilton street and all of the streetcars would have to wait.
On the right side is the furniture factory of Charles A. Dorney on the right at 333-335 Hamilton Street. It later moved to the 600 Block of Hamilton in the early 1900s. The Hotel Sterling is on the far end of the block of buildings to the right. Today that building is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. In the background of the photo on the east side of the Hamilton Street Viaduct to the left is the Lehigh Valley Railroad Station, which is about a block west. The Fourth Street hill on Hamilton Street is west of the LVRR station. |
