| Description |
English: An 1876 view of Ferndale, California taken from the cemetery, looking west towards Main Street. Just right of the steeple the Gum Drop Trees in front of the Berding House are visible. The Ivanhoe Hotel is at the intersection of Grizzly Bluff and Main Street (first cross road to left of steeple). Notice in the cemetery, the Shaw mausoleum has not yet been constructed. The Alford house with its mansard roof shows on Main Street, next to the large building that would become "the Golden Gait Mercantile Store." Notice the thick forest in background along Salt River is being cleared. |
