Description
English: Proclamation by Henry J. Friel, Mayor of Ottawa, offering a reward for the capture and conviction of the assassin of Thomas D'Arcy McGee. Full text:

"Proclamation! Whereas, the Honorable Thomas D'Arcy McGee, a member of the House of Commons of the Dominion of Canada, was foully assassinated in this city, on the morning of the seventh day of April, 1868, in accordance with a Resolution of the Corporation, I, Henry james Friel, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby offer a reward of $2000 for the apprehension and prosecution to convinction of the assassin. I hereby also offer the sum of two thousand dollars for the apprehension and conviction of any party or parties in any way implicated in or connected with, or privy to, the perpetration of this atrocious crime. Given under my hand at the City of Ottawa, this seventh day of April, A.D., 1868. Henry J. Friel, Mayor of Ottawa."
