Description
English: Flag of the Romanian Assembly in Blaj (May 1848), which opposed the Hungarian Revolution and proclaimed support for Emperor Ferdinand I, favoring a Romanian Transylvania under Habsburg rule. The depiction here is based on a report by participant Ștefan Branea: a tricolor blue-red-white scheme and ribbons of the Habsburg flag (Nicolae Teșculă, Gheorghe Gavrilă, "Marea Adunare Națională de la Blaj din 3/15 mai 1848 într-o descriere inedită a unui memorialist sighișorean", in Revista Bistriței, Vol. XVII, 2003, p. 205). Other flags used included the Romanian tricolor (horizontal blue-yellow-red) or a red-blue-white and blue-white-red schemes (Doru Neagu, "Din istoricul drapelului național", in Argesis. Studii și comunicări. Seria Istorie, Vol. XIX, 2010, p. 318).
