Description

Passing through a valley for much of the route from Purley where it branches off the main London Victoria to Brighton line. Terminating in the small town of Caterham, the line has traditionally been worked as an outer suburban line from London. Bearing an island platform and sidings, Caterham was re-visited on 18 February 2012 after nearly 28 years. Other than newer trains and minor changes to the station infrastructure, little has altered.

Units 456.016 and 456.018 are awaiting departure on 2G46, 12:09 Caterham to London Bridge.

24 2-car class 456 units were built in the early 1990s to replace the 2EPB units which were being withdrawn. Originallty to the Central divsion, they have never strayed away. As of 2012 they are all in service with franchised operator, Southern. As such they work shorter distance services from London either singlely, in pairs (as seen here) or in multiple with a class 455.
